UPDATE, 2:25 p.m.: Mark McKenna sends a photo from the scene, add writes:

Eureka City Ambulance and Humboldt Fire Protection District personnel work on a female pedestrian who was struck by a vehicle at the intersection of I and Del Norte Streets in Eureka around 1 P.M. today. According to EPD Sgt. Stevens, who was on scene an EPD officer Cooper witnessed the incident. The investigation is ongoing and officers with Eureka Police Department on scene said a press release would be issued later today. The injured female was transported by ambulance to St. Joe’s Hospital with unknown injuries.

Friend of the LoCO Mark McKenna tells us that there was a pretty bad accident at the corner of Del Norte and I streets shortly after 1 p.m. Del Norte is currently closed, McKenna says, and two lanes of I Street are shut.

McKenna reports that police are currently questioning the driver, who “looks visibly shaken.” The pedestrian who was struck was a young female, possibly a juvenile, and she suffered what McKenna judged to be moderate to serious injuries.

More information as we get it.
