From the Humboldt County Drug Task Force:
On 03-07-2013 at approximately 9:40pm the Humboldt County Drug Task Force assisted by the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office, California Highway Patrol and the Eureka Police Department arrested John Arthur Moreno age 37 from Eureka for transporting over 2 pounds of Crystal Methamphetamine in his vehicle.
After an approximately two month long methamphetamine investigation by the Humboldt County Drug Task Force they obtained a Humboldt County Superior Court search warrant for Moreno’s vehicle and residence.
Moreno was located traveling southbound US Highway 101 near McKinleyville in his vehicle. Officers conducted a traffic stop and detained Moreno and his 21 year old daughter, Amanda Brooke Cranston, who was the driver of the vehicle.
Officers also served a search warrant at Moreno’s residence located in the 1800 block West Avenue. Officers located Moreno’s 16 year old son in the residence by himself.
When officers searched Moreno’s vehicle they located over two pounds of Crystal Methamphetamine that was concealed in a television in the rear of the vehicle. The street value of the methamphetamine is approximately $80,000 dollars.
When officers searched Moreno’s residence they seized 326 growing marijuana plants that ranged in size from 10 inches to 3 feet in height. Officers seized approximately 3 pounds of dried marijuana and a small amount of marijuana hash. Officers located evidence of a butane hash lab in the house. Officers seized about ½ of a pound of Psilocin mushroom and a loaded handgun from the residence.
During their investigation officers learned that Moreno’s 16 year old son was making marijuana hash in the residence. Officers arrested Moreno’s son for cultivation and possession for sales of marijuana and he was transported to Humboldt County Juvenile Hall.
John Moreno was arrested and booked into the Humboldt County Correctional Facility for possession for sales and transportation of methamphetamine, felony child endangerment, being armed in commission of a felony, and for the manufacturing of a butane hash lab. Moreno’s bail was set at $500,000 dollars.
Cranston was arrested and booked into the Humboldt County Jail for possession for sales and transportation of methamphetamine. Cranston’s bail was set at $75,000 dollars.
This investigation is being sent to Humboldt County Child Welfare Services.
