On 5-2-13 at approx. 1840 hours, [Cody] Cassidy [of Willits] was driving a 1994 Nissan p/u northbound on US-101 north of Willits. As Cassidy was nearing the old CHP truck scales, he allowed the Nissan p/u to drift to the right shoulder of US-101. Cassidy braked, but was unable to avoid leaving the roadway, and the Nissan struck a tree east of US-101. Cassidy and his passenger crawled out of the truck. Cassidy waved down a passer-by, and emergency services were dispatched. Cassidy suffered moderate injuries, and was transported to Howard Memorial Hospital. The 17 year old passenger suffered major injuries, and was transported by helicopter to Sant Rosa Memorial Hospital. Cassidy was interviewed by the investigating officer at the scene and at the hospital, and was determined not to be under the influence. US-101 was closed for approx. 15 minutes while the helicopter landed and transported the passenger.

The CHP dispatch is reporting an accident one mile north of Willits. A vehicle went off the road and hit a tree. There are reportedly two victims. There is one way controlled traffic to allow a helicopter to land and transport at least one of the victims to a hospital. The traffic situation is likely to be messy so avoid the area if possible.
