From the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office:
On 11-8-2013, at approximately 2:00 p.m., the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office received calls from several citizens in the Golden Gate Subdivision, Bridgeville. The citizens all reported hearing yelling and screaming from their neighbor identified the suspect as Curt Chamberlain. The neighbors reported hearing Chamberlain threaten his dog, then heard multiple shots being fired and a dog yelping as if it were injured. One of those neighbors reported seeing Chamberlain with a gun in his hand.
Sheriff’s deputies immediately were dispatched to the area. Neighbors watched the suspect get into a maroon Ford Ranger with a canopy and drive away while deputies were enroute. One of the responding deputies saw a Ford Ranger Truck parked in front of the Swains Flat Outpost, which matched the description of the one that was provided by the neighbors. The deputy contacted the driver of the truck who was identified as Curt Matthew Chamberlain, 32 years old. The deputy searched Chamberlain’s truck and located a 20 gauge shotgun in the cab.
In the back of the Chamberlain’s truck was a large Rottweiler dog. When the deputies inspected the dog they saw it had been shot with what appeared to be a shotgun, possibly birdshot. A Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office Animal Control Officer was called to the scene and the dog was taken to a veterinarian for treatment. The dog remained at the veterinarians office over the weekend and is expected to recover from its injuries.
Chamberlain was arrested for public intoxication, cruelty to an animal, and a misdemeanor warrant for public intoxication. His bail was set at $30,000.00.
The deputies checked Chamberlain’s residence and determined no one other animals or any humans were injured. They did find evidence of a shotgun being fired.
