Eureka Police Dept. Press Release:
On 11-6-13 at approximately 7:40 p.m. Eureka Police Officers were dispatched to a restaurant located in the area of Myrtle and West Avenue on the report of a traffic collision. A witness reported that the driver was possibly intoxicated.
Upon arrival officers found a white 2000 Dodge Dakota high centered on a large landscaping rock. officers contacted the driver, 53 year-old Eureka resident Teresa May Savage. Savage related to officers that she was attempting to pull out onto Myrtle Avenue from private property and for an unknown reason ended up stuck on the rock. While speaking with Savage, the officer noticed that she was displaying signs of impairment. The officer conducted sobriety tests and determined that Savage was impaired. Further tests revealed that Savage had a blood alcohol content almost three times the legal limit of .08%. Savage was taken into custody for DUI and transported to the Humboldt County Correctional Facility. It appears she was not injured during the collision. A tow truck was called to remove her truck from the rock.
In light of the two DUI collisions that occurred on this date the Eureka Police Department deployed an officer on an overtime basis to work a special DUI patrol from 10 p.m. to 3 a.m.. Subsequently, the officer made two alcohol related DUI arrests during his overtime detail. The overtime for this detail was funded by a grant provided by the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
