Yellow smoke update at end of post.

According to a PG&E representative that spoke to Cliff Berkowitz this morning, the multiple reports of minor outages and glitches that occurred throughout northern Humboldt this morning were due to “a switch that failed on a transmission system.”

The PG&E map shows around 20 small localized problems but customers of the utility company are reporting surges and flickerings in multiple areas. 111 customers are still without power with no estimated time of restoration as of yet.

UPDATE, 10:17 a.m.: In what your LoCO discovered was related news, readers have pointed out that the smoke spewed from the PG&E power plant near King Salmon was more yellowish in color this morning. So we called Jana back. She said that when power problems were detected this morning that the system flipped over to using diesel to make sure service was maintained.

Smoke mystery solved! The cause of this morning’s troubles is still under investigation. -AG
