Two young brothers, six and eight years old, with close family ties to Humboldt Co. were killed the day before yesterday in a tragic ATV crash near Fort Bragg.
Carter and Silas (last names have been omitted to give the family privacy) were apparently riding together on the All Terrain Vehicle when they hit an embankment. The youngest was thrown immediately and died on the site. The older boy, Carter, stayed on for a bit and then was thrown. The two were discovered by their mother. Carter was rushed to the Mendocino Coast District Hospital where he passed away.
According to the Press Democrat which has more details here, an aunt “described the boys as avid gardeners who loved to roam the property with their grandfather. ‘They loved living on the ranch, being outside, building forts,’ Johnson said. ‘They were loud and crazy and always dirty.’”
Our sister publication, Redheaded Blackbelt, which covers Mendocino County as well as other areas noted yesterday that a Facebook page dedicated to the two siblings has been devoted to helping the community grieve as well as to raising money in order to help the family pay for funeral expenses.
