UPDATE 10:30 A.M.:  CHP Press Release:

On Thursday, October 24 at approximately 0500 hours, an unknown individual was driving northbound on US-101 in a semi-truck pulling a trailer. For unknown reasons as the driver approached the northbound Dyerville exit, the vehicle combination was allowed to travel to the east and leave the roadway. The vehicle combination overturned down the dirt embankment and came to rest on the transition road to the on-ramp for southbound US-101. The semi-truck became engulfed in flames. Fire personnel were dispatched to the scene and extinguished the flames. The driver suffered fatal injuries. The cause of this collision is still under investigation by the Garberville CHP Office. 

The Garberville CHP and HCSO Coroner’s Office are working to identify the driver of the vehicle. 

As a result of this collision diesel fuel from the truck was spilled. Caltrans along with the National Response Center was called to assist with the Hazardous Waste Cleanup.

CHP Dispatch is reporting a big rig went over the side of Hwy 101 near Dyerville at 5 A.M this morning.  The truck caught on fire. The southbound onramp is closed and the Humboldt Co. coroner has been called to the scene.
