UPDATE 10:05 P.M.: Miranda’s Rescue posted the following on their Facebook page.

 

MIRANDA TO THE RESCUE - VEHICLE ROLLOVER INVOLVING A SINGLE WOMAN AND HER PETS HWY 36: A woman moving from Wisconsin to Rio Dell overturned her truck on Hwy 36 this evening Sat 10/26/13. Her attached stock trailor luckily did not overturn but bounced around causing the trailer contents including the cats crates to be thrown about. One dog in the truck and several cats in the trailer were safely transported to Miranda’s Rescue this evening around 9pm. Shannon checked the animals; there were no visible injuries. Thankfully, the female driver is receiving the necessary medical attention at a local hospital and is relieved to hear her pets are safe.

UPDATE 9:21 P.M.: CHP Press Release:

On October 26, 2013, at approximately 4:20 PM, a 1993 Toyota towing a horse trailer driven by Tracy O’Connell of Rio Dell was driving westbound on State Route 36 in the vicinity of milepost 36-HUM-25.79.  The 1993 Toyota also contained a dog and the horse trailer contained multiple cats (no horses).  For reasons still under investigation, Ms. O’Connell lost control, left the roadway, and overturned.  The trailer disconnected from the 1993 Toyota during the collision.  No other vehicles were involved.  Ms. O’Connell was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the collision and sustained major injuries.  There were no roadway closures as a result of this incident. 

The California Highway Patrol - Humboldt Area responded to the scene and is conducting the investigation.  Emergency personnel from the Bridgeville Volunteer Fire Department and City Ambulance also responded to the scene.  Personnel from Miranda’s Rescue responded and took responsibility for animal care at this incident.  The cause of the collision is still under investigation.

UPDATE 5:19 P.M.: Traffic accident status now changed to major injuries.

UPDATE 5:02 P.M.: CHP dispatch is reporting that the woman is out of the vehicle and has minor injuries.

CHP dispatch received a call at 4:23 P.M. reporting an accident with a woman trapped in a vehicle on Hwy 36 east of Bridgeville. An ambulance has been alerted and is on its way.  Follow CHP dispatch updates here.
