Humboldt Co. Sheriff’s Office Press Release:
On 10-31-2013, at approximately 12:30 p. m., the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office received a call of a possible Home Invasion Robbery on Dolly Varden Road, Blue Lake ( Lord Ellis Summit). The citizen reporting the crime said a friend told him to call 911 because someone was in the road with a shotgun. Deputies were immediately dispatched to the area. The citizen reported his friend also saw a bald male with a machete that was associated with a blue pickup truck. The citizen provided a suspect vehicle description to the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office dispatch center. The citizen then told the dispatcher the vehicle drove off with three male adults in it. The dispatcher broadcasted the possible crime and vehicle description to responding units and allied agencies.
At approximately 1:20 p.m. a California Highway Patrol (C.H.P.) Officer spotted the vehicle westbound on State Route 299. The C.H.P. Officer followed the truck into the Blue Lake Casino parking lot where the C.H.P Officer was joined by other officers and deputies. The three occupants of the truck were all detained. They were identified as William Dean Parks, 46 years old, Leonard Lee McCovey Jr. 43 years old and Tiereney Dale Perry, 34 years old.
Deputies located and met with the two male victims who were uninjured. The 71 year old male told deputies he was notified by a neighbor that two men were tampering with his vehicle outside his home. When the man went to check on his vehicle, those same two men came out of the brush, one was armed with a shotgun, the other with a pistol. They brandished the weapons at the man and told him they wanted his marijuana. Suddenly a third man exited the brush from a different area and told the first two men to just kill the 71 year old male. The victim’s wife and the neighbor came outside to see what was happening. The wife immediately ran off, but the 60 year old neighbor was caught by the suspects who made the two victims walk over to a nearby carport next to a shop where they continued to brandish firearms at the men and demand to know where the marijuana was at. At one point the suspects stuck their pistol underneath the 71 year old man’s chin while threatening to shoot him. The 71 year old agreed to show the suspects where his marijuana was and they stole it, along with a small motorcycle they located.
The suspects fled the scene in a 2006 Blue Toyota Pickup Truck. The victims were not hurt in the incident and were able to identify the three detained suspects. Deputies searched the suspect’s vehicle and located a few pounds of processed marijuana bud, but no firearms. Deputies are currently searching the area for the firearms and the stolen motorcycle.
The suspects are all currently being booked into the Humboldt County Correctional Facility on charges of armed robbery, kidnapping, assault with a deadly weapon, conspiracy, elder abuse and terrorist threats. Bail is $100,000.00
