… ‘cuz the Humboldt-Del Norte Chapter of the American Red Cross is looking for some and they’d like your help. Deets below:

November 5, 2013, is the last day that nominations for Humboldt Heroes will be accepted for the upcoming Humboldt Heroes Recognition Luncheon.

“We expect a number of nominations to be submitted this month,” said Barbara Caldwell, executive director of the Humboldt-Del Norte Chapter of the American Red Cross. “All nominations are then reviewed by members of our selection committee, and heroes are notified by early December. This gives us the time we need to plan for the award ceremony, which will be held February 21, 2014 at the River Lodge in Fortuna.”

Nominees must be people or organizations that have done something courageous or stepped up to help when others might not have. Categories for awards include: Saved a Life, Saved a Life in the Line of Duty, Good Samaritan Adult, Child and Senior, Environmental Good Samaritan, Business Good Samaritan, and Animal Rescue Hero. This year may also include someone receiving the “Spirit of the Red Cross” Award.

Nomination forms can be downloaded from the chapter’s website or filled out online at redcross.org/ca/eureka. Forms are also available from by emailing barbara.caldwell@redcross.org or by calling the chapter at 443-4521. All nominations are due to the Humboldt-Del Norte Chapter, P.O.Box 3502, Eureka, CA 95501, by November 5, 2013.

This year, the Red Cross expects to have more than 200 guests at the invitation-only luncheon sponsored by local organizations and businesses. Heroic acts must be ongoing or have occurred between November 1, 2012 and October 31, 2013. Heroes for all categories must live in Humboldt County, or heroic acts must have taken place in the county.
