“{The Humboldt Co. Sheriff’s Office] did not make recovering Anna’s remains a priority. They were after all, busting marijuana gardens” said Jacqueline Zumwalt, mother of missing hiker Anna Rodriguez Flasnic

Well, Facebook makes it very hard to keep anything private these days….I want all of you to know before we release a statement in the morning that Anna’s body has been found. We do not know yet when it will be released to the family, how we will pay for her cremation, or when we will be able to hold a memorial for her. Right now, we are gathering around our baby Ryker who will be in the hospital for several weeks (at least). I want to post here part of the press release that we hope to have out in the morning so that all of you will know as much of the story as we do

We do not know for sure when Anna died. We know that 2 searchers found her body 11 days ago. The Sheriff’s office did not go out to get her until today. And they still have not contacted us. 5-6 days after her body was found, Detective Fulton told Jesse that her phone had been found. They knew the whole time that her body was laying out there. It appears that she broke, or somehow injured, her leg and it was probably several days before she died. She left several notes. They were barely legible but enough to know what happened. Jesse and several searchers were risking their lives out there looking for her while the police knew for 11 days that she had been found. Our family is very sad. We are heartbroken to think of her long and painful suffering. But we are also very angry over the way her case has been handled. I am told that the Sheriff’s dept said that the just didn’t have the man power available to go out and get her. Yet, they were busting marijuana gardens all over the county. Obviously my Anna, along with my son, grandson, nephew, and very dear friends who were risking their lives did not take precedence over their marijuana busts. And, they still have not had the decency to contact us. whatever their excuses might be, their behavior is unconscionable.

I also want all of you to know how grateful we all are for the support, the help, the prayers, and the love that you have all shown to us during this time. We still have not been officially notified of Anna’s death and so, we will keep this page up until the next crescent moon. By then we hope to have answers to all of the many many questions. God bless you all. And please, hug your loved ones real tight.
