From the Eureka Police Department:

On 9-8-13 at approximately 10:19 a.m. EPD Officers were dispatched to the intersection of California and Clark street on the report of an injury roll over collision. Upon arrival Officers located a 33 year old female inside of a 1990 Toyota truck that was on its side. The woman appeared to have sustained significant head injuries and was transported to the hospital. The woman succumbed to her injuries a short time later. Her name is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.

Officers located the driver of a 2014 Hyundai Elantra, 35 year old Knut Frändburg of Stockholm, Sweden and his passenger 33 year old Anna Andersson, also from Sweden. Frändburg and Andersson were uninjured in the collision.

A preliminary investigation showed that the Toyota truck was traveling southbound on California street approaching Clark street. The Hyundai was traveling westbound on Clark street approaching California street. It appears that the driver of the Hyundai either failed to stop at the stop sign or stopped, but failed to yield the right of way to the Toyota truck before entering the intersection. The front of the Hyundai collided with the driver side of the Toyota truck causing the Toyota roll over and collide with a parked Saturn. The driver of the Toyota appeared to have not been wearing her seatbelt which is believed to have contributed to seriousness of her injuries.

The intersection was closed to traffic for approximately 8 hours while the EPD Traffic Unit followed up on the collision. Drugs and alcohol do not appear to be a factor in the collision. Anyone who may have witnessed the collision is asked to call Traffic Officer Tim Jones at (707) 441-4109.
