The huge Navy ship, the USS Independence, which has been docked in the Humboldt Bay was nudged out of the harbor late this afternoon by one of our local tug boats. Local photographer and blogger, Mark Ahrens, put up a photo essay depicting the great ship’s progress out of our port (above is just one of his images.) Take a walk beside the Bay with him. You can almost taste the salty tang and hear the engines rumble.
