Humboldt Bay Fire press release:

At approximately 0412 hours this morning, Humboldt Bay Fire was dispatched to a reported structure fire in the vicinity of McCullens Ave. at Iowa St.  A full first alarm assignment was dispatched consisting of three fire engines, one ladder truck, and two Chief Officers.

The first arriving engine company reported a detached wood framed garage at 1508 Allard Ave.. fully involved in fire with fire extending through the roof.  Due to the extent of the fire and compromised integrity of the structure, the crew initiated a “defensive” attack from the exterior of the structure to contain the fire to the building of origin and to protect other exposed buildings.  Crews worked approximately 30 minutes to bring the fire fully under control.  No one was home at the time of the fire and there were no injuries.  The damage was limited to the building of origin, which was a complete loss.

During the fire, the Arcata Fire Protection District provided coverage of Humboldt Bay Fire’s jurisdiction until units could be released from the scene.

Initial damage estimates show an approximately $15,000 loss on the structure and another $15,000 for the contents.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
