UPDATE 12:40 p.m.: A witness to last night’s break-in at Ten Window Williams contacted Lost Coast Outpost with a description of what happened.

According to the witness, Matt (he prefers to only use his first name) He had been the designated driver and had dropped friends off at their apartment in Old Town when he noticed a car with its trunk open.”These guys looked like they were serious business,” Matt said. “They had gone in [and] smashed glass display cases towards the back.” One man, he said, was loading up something into the car with the open trunk and the other one was inside “loading stuff into the box.” The one inside came out and Matt realized that the man was coming out of the broken window.

The man leaving the building was “mid to late twenties maybe early 30’s.” He was about 5‘8” tall and had light colored skin. He was wearing a black sweatshirt with a hood and tan pants. When he turned to put something in the trunk, Matt noticed that he had a dark bandanna in his back pocket.

Another man was putting something in the trunk and had his back to the witness the entire time. He was wearing a light colored sweatshirt. Matt believes there were already two or three boxes “or one really big box” in the trunk.

The vehicle, Matt believes, was a newer Hyundai with no license plates.

At this point the first suspect straightened up and made eye contact with Matt. Matt continued to drive down the street, at first slowly then he gunned it. The men got into the car and also went up the same street (headed east which is towards Hwy 255 and the Humboldt County Library.) Matt, who had forgotten his cell phone earlier in the evening, turned to head to Eureka Police Department and the suspects continued up the street.

Matt reported the situation to the Eureka Police Department at their outside phone. Unfortunately, he said, the stabbing occurred at around the same time which slowed down response time.

UPDATE 9:40 a.m.: Spokesperson for the Eureka Police Department, Brittany Kesterson, wrote us,

On 07/18/14 at about 1:18 a.m. we received an alarm call for glass break and multiple calls reporting broken glass and subjects fleeing from Ten Window Williams with boxes.  Officers quickly responded but were unable to locate any suspects.  It appears the suspect(s) broke the window, made entrance into the business, and took numerous items from display cases.  Officers are following any leads provided by the witnesses.

Last night around 12:30 there appears to have been a smash and grab at Ten Window Williams Jewelers on Third Street in Eureka.  According to scanner traffic, there was an alarm and witnesses saw two white male suspects in their twenties coming out of the business carrying “multiple boxes of items.”

The suspects fled northbound in what scanner traffic said was a newer model bright red vehicle.
