A pilot walked away from a plane crash at the Hoopa Valley Airport on Friday, according to tribal public information officer Kristan Korns.
At about 2 p.m. Friday, the plane — pictured at right — came in for a landing at the tribe’s airstrip. Somehow it overshot and crashed on the south end of the airport.
The Hoopa Valley Tribal Police and the Hoopa Wildland Department responded and secured the scene, Korns said, but the pilot walked away from the wreckage of the plane.
According to Korns, the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office arrived and reported the incident to the National Transportation Safety Board.
The name of the pilot was not immediately available.
