Silverio Sanchez, who’s currently in jail awaiting trial on charges of attempted murder, assault with a deadly weapon, felony evasion of a police officer and felony hit and run, appeared in court today and had two more charges added to his case: two counts of witness tampering.

Back in March, Sanchez allegedly led law enforcement on a high-speed chase through western Trinity and eastern Humboldt counties, striking a U.S. Forest Service officer with his vehicle and later fleeing on foot. He was found hiding in the attic of a Eureka home on May 1.

Appearing today before Judge Dale Reinholtsen, Sanchez stood silent as the judge tacked on two counts of 131 (a)(1): “Knowingly and maliciously preventing or dissuading any witness or victim from attending or giving testimony at any trial, proceeding, or inquiry authorized by law.”

There was no indication who Sanchez made contact with — or how. If convicted, these additional charges could each add up to a year in prison to Sanchez’s sentence.
