The Mad River Union is reporting that Arcata City Council Member Shane Brinton began tonight’s city council meeting with an announcement that he will resign his seat at the end of this week. Brinton has reportedly been caring for his ill mother 

“It’s the best decision I can make for my family and my mother,” Brinton is quoted as saying over at the MRU.

Brinton was first elected to the council in 2008. His current term would have ended in 2016 had he served it out.
