California Highway Patrol Press Release:

A motorcyclist received major injuries after colliding into a deer on State Route 36, East of Bridgeville, on Wednesday.

At approximately 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday, June 18th, 67 year old Larry Dwayne Burris of Kelseyville, California, was driving his 2000 Yamaha motorcycle eastbound on State Route 36, just east of the town of Bridgeville, when a deer ran directly into his path of travel.  Burris did not have time to take evasive action and subsequently collided into the deer where he and his motorcycle eventually came to rest on the roadway.  A collision investigation revealed that Burris was not traveling at an excessive speed for that stretch of roadway.  Burris was transported by ground ambulance to Redwood Memorial Hospital with a broken left ankle.

Burris was wearing proper protective gear at the time of the collision and DUI is not a factor.  The CHP was assisted in this collision by Calfire, Caltrans, Bridgeville Volunteer Fire Department, and City Ambulance.

The California Highway Patrol Humboldt Area office is investigating this traffic collision.
