California Highway Patrol press release:

On June 22, 2014 at approx. 11:36  AM, the CHP arrested 36 year old Daniel Roy Jones, of Arcata CA, in regards to the fatal collision that occurred on SR-299 east of Roth Rd. in Willow Creek on June21, 2014.

Jones was arrested for DUI, Hit and Run, Manslaughter, and Delaying or Obstructing an officer.

Jones is being  booked into the Humboldt County Jail.

Identification of the victim is still pending, and will be released through the Humboldt County Coroner’s Office.

The CHP is continuing their investigation into the collision and anyone with information is requested to call, (707) 268-2000.

From the California Highway Patrol:

On June 21, 2014 at approx. 10:05 PM, the CHP received a call of a pedestrian that had been struck by a vehicle on SR-299 east of Roth Rd. in Willow Creek.  Hoopa ambulance and the CHP responded to the scene.  Upon arrival at the scene it was determined that the pedestrian had suffered fatal injuries and the vehicle involved had fled the scene.

Several minutes later a CHP officer located the involved vehicle parked behind Ray’s Market in Willow Creek.  CHP officers with the assistance of the US Forest Service, and an Arcata Police Dept. K-9 searched the area for approx. 4 hours but were unable to locate the driver of the vehicle.

Officers are currently investigating several possible leads on the driver. At this time the pedestrian’s identity is not known. Anyone with information regarding this case is asked to call the CHP at (707) 268-2000.
