According to Eureka Police Department spokesperson, Brittany Kesterson, two pedestrians were hit yesterday at approximately 3:25 p.m. when a Suburu headed east on 7th Street ran a stop light sign and collided with vehicle headed southbound on H Street.

The southbound vehicle (a Hyundai sedan) struck a pedestrian in the crosswalk causing the woman minor injuries.

Then the Hyundai continued onto the sidewalk and struck a male pedestrian. Both pedestrians were initially taken to St. Joseph’s Hospital. The man was later flown to an out of the area hospital with a what Kesterson described as a “shattered pelvis.”

The Hyundai also damaged a traffic control box and traffic signals for the area were out for about an hour.

The young Suburu driver was not arrested. DUI does not appear to have been a factor in this incident.
