According to Brittany Kesterson, a spokesperson for the Eureka Police Department, at around 2:30 p.m., an 11-year-old girl was across from the Washington Elementary School at an ice cream truck on W Street. The girl attempted to head back across the road to the school. She failed to see an oncoming Toyota Tacoma and was struck.
“Fortunately,” said Kesterson, “the driver was going pretty slow.” “
“Basically,” Kesterson said, “the truck knocked her over.”
The girl had minor scrapes and was transported as a precaution to the hospital. She has already been released.
The driver, 29-year-old Lawanda Parks, was cited for being an unlicensed driver.
