UPDATE, 12:26 p.m: As our reporter’s video shows below, the truck came to rest right smack-dab in the middle of a houseless encampment. No one appears to have been home when this went down, Goff says.

Amped-up KHUM caller Dennis Mayo describes an astounding car crash and attempted getaway that just occurred on Highway 101 just south of Arcata. Listen to his breathless description of the event and its aftermath here:
If you don’t have audio handy, Mayo describes the pickup literally flying through the air.
Mayo:
“It was amazing, and like I said, I don’t really know what I saw, except for a white truck flying through the air. And then he bounced over the edge of the off-ramp here, and jumped up again in the air and went into the brush, and I’m surprised he’s alive but apparently [the driver] ran off.”
The suspect attempted to flee from custody down the railroad tracks, Mayo reports, but the numerous CHP officers who responded to the scene since caught up with him and took him into custody.
