Those sirens that erupted throughout Eureka a half an hour or so ago were all of Eureka emergency service agencies — police, fire, ambulance — responding to a possible suicide attempt on Pine Street, near the corner of Harris.

A caller told a 911 dispatcher that he believed a person had locked himself into a room of his house near that corner and turned on the gas. Scanner traffic notes that PG&E is expected to show up at the scene sometime soon to check gas levels, and also that police have cleared the home and requested that ambulance personnel enter to verify an “1144” — a dead body.

The Arcata Fire Department has been summoned to provide coverage in the Eureka area while Humboldt Bay Fire is at the scene.

Updates if/when possible.
