UPDATE 5:06 p.m.: Somebody’s happy! The owner of the gems and stones has been identified! Eureka Police Department would like to thank the public for their help.

Eureka Police Department press release:

On 05/07/14 at approximately 5:06 p.m., officers responded to a hotel on the 1900 block of 4th St. and conducted a probation search of a hotel room. Officers located several boxes, each of which contained several hundred individual precious gems and stones.

None of the subjects on scene claimed ownership of the stones or any knowledge about them. For that reason, officers collected the items for safekeeping. If you have more information on the ownership of these gems please contact the Eureka Police Department (707)441-4060 regarding case# 3C14-3963.
