Arcata Police Department press release:

On 11/01/2014 at about 4:00am, an officer with the Arcata Police Department conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle in the 1600 block of Giuntoli Lane for expired registration. 

The passenger and responsible party for the vehicle, identified as Eureka resident Joseff Gene Greek (age 26), was found to have several felony warrants of arrest for the illegal possession of a firearm.  Greek is also on Humboldt County Probation for various firearm, narcotic and theft related offenses.

During a search of the vehicle per the terms of his probation, a loaded .380 caliber semi automatic handgun was located.  The serial number had previously been filed off of the firearm in order to interfere with its identification.

Joseff Gene Greek was arrested on the following charges and booked into the Humboldt County Correctional Facility:

• PC 25850(a) - Possession of a firearm in public
• PC 29800(a)(1) - Felon in Possession of a Firearm
• PC 30305(a)(1) - Prohibited from Possessing Ammunition
• PC 29900 - Possession of a Firearm with Previous Violent Offense
• PC 29815(a) - Prohibited from Possessing a Firearm Per Probation Terms.
• PC 23900 - Altering Serial Number on a Firearm
