During a break in today’s Board of Supervisors meeting on the General Plan Update, 1st District Supervisor Rex Bohn told the Times-Standard‘s Will Houston and this reporter that, in the face of the insta-controversy generated by his suggestion, he will be pulling from the agenda his proposed resolution to have the phrase “In God We Trust” displayed inside board chambers.
Bohn said he decided to abandon the resolution proposal due to the controversy as well as the potential expense of a legal challenge. “We have big fish to fry and we’re dealing with all these minnows,” he said.
He noted with a touch of frustration that the City of Milpitas just approved a resolution to display the national motto within its city hall (and elsewhere) with little or no controversy.
Regardless, Bohn said he’ll keep the motto in mind personally. “I’ll change it to ‘In God I trust,’” he joked.
