Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office press release:

On August 23, 2014 a Sheriff’s Deputy began a residential burglary investigation from the 6000 block of Highway 36, Carlotta.  The reporting party was watching the residence for the owner who was away from the home for medical care at the time of the burglary.  The reporting party was informed by a neighbor that a 2004, Jeep, Wrangler, was missing from the residence.  The Deputy responded to the residence and it was determined that the Jeep was stolen from the residence and the residence had been entered and burglarized.  Taken from the home was jewelry, firearms, television, tools and appliances.

On August 29-2014 the investigating Deputy learned the stolen Jeep had been recovered and there was a receipt located in the vehicle at the time of recovery that showed a payroll check had been cashed at a Eureka business on August 23, 2014.  The Deputy responded to the business where he was able to obtain information about the person cashing the check along with surveillance video of the suspect cashing the check and arriving in the stolen Jeep.  This suspect was identified as Javier Talavera (20 year old, Carlotta resident).  A second female suspect was also identified during the check cashing and being associated with the stolen Jeep, Anna Marie Crowl (42 year old, Fortuna resident).

On September 7, 2014, at about 8:00 AM, Deputies from the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office, assisted by Officers from the Fortuna Police Department, conducted a probation search on the residence occupied by Talavera and Crowl (600 block of 15th Street, Fortuna).  Talavera and Crowl were both home at the time and both are on County Probation with search clauses.

Deputies located items stolen from the victim inside the residence occupied by Talavera and Crowl.  Both Talavera and Crowl were arrested for violation of possession of stolen property, burglary, theft of a motor vehicle, and violations of terms of probation.  Both were booked into the Humboldt County Correctional Facility on the above violations.
