UPDATE, 9/17: The Outpost received a call from Sandra Kutzkey, the current manager of Paul’s Chapel in Arcata, who grew up in Weed. She has begun gathering food, clothing and supplies that she plans to deliver to the displaced residents of her childhood home.

“Any kind of donations people wanna bring,” Kutzkey told LoCO. She asks that items be delivered to the Chapel from 9 a.m.-5 p.m., Monday through Saturday. She can be reached by calling 822-2445.

Original Post: Aided by intense winds, a wildfire tore through the town of Weed in Siskiyou County Monday, damaging or destroying at least 100 homes and forcing the evacuation of some 1,500 residents. In addition to the homes, a church was burned to the ground along with an estimated 350 acres.

Below is some video posted to the Yreka News Facebook page by Ann Wagner showing the devastation to Morris, Oak and California streets, an area collectively known as the Angel Valley Subdivision.
