California Highway Patrol press release:

On the evening of Saturday, August 30th, a motorcyclist died from his injuries after colliding into a vehicle traveling the opposite direction on State Route 96 in the Willow Creek area.

Just before 6 p.m., 56 year old Larry O’Dell Miller of Hoopa was driving a 2008 Harley Davidson Dyna motorcycle northbound on State Route 96, south of Patrica Lane.  Miller lost control of his motorcycle, causing the motorcycle to overturn onto its side and slide across the double-yellow lines into the southbound lane.  Miller and the motorcycle collided into a southbound-traveling 2000 Chevrolet Silverado, driven by 65 year old Christopher Brian Stanley of Eureka.  Miller, who was wearing a helmet at the time of the collision, succumbed to his injuries shortly following the collision.  Stanley was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the collision.  DUI as a factor is being investigated.

Emergency personnel from the Willow Creek Volunteer Fire Department, Hoopa Ambulance, and PHI Air Medical responded to this incident and assisted with life-saving efforts.

This collision occurred during the California Highway Patrol’s Labor Day Weekend Maximum Enforcement Period (MEP), which began Friday evening and ended Monday night.  The CHP Humboldt Area office is investigating this traffic collision.
