Yesterday LoCO reported on two separate fatal accidents that occurred involving Humboldt residents. Today the California Highway Patrol have released the names of those who lost their lives.

  • 18-year-old Millie Blake of Hoopa died after her vehicle crossed the median and flipped on Highway 101 near the Sunset exit in Arcata. Blake was driving, was reportedly not wearing her seatbelt and was ejected from the vehicle while all three of her passengers (wearing seat belts) survived. More info at LoCO‘s previous post here.
  • 24-year-old Rynn Smith of Rio Dell was killed after the driver of the pick-up he was riding in lost control on Van Duzen Road off Highway 36. He too was ejected from his vehicle while the driver was able to extricate himself and seek help from passersby. CHP is investigating if alcohol played a factor in the crash. More info at LoCO‘s previous post here.
