UPDATE, 5:38 p.m.: Arcata Fire on This Afternoon’s Simultaneous Alliance Road, McKinleyville Blazes

There was a massive explosion at an Arcata apartment complex near the corner of Alliance and Stromberg avenues at around 2 p.m. Police and fire have responded to the scene, and at least one person was taken away with serious injuries.

Lost Coast Outpost reader Henry Faust, who took the above picture, tells the Outpost that the explosion happened at the Arcata Plaza Complex, and could be heard blocks away. Police and fire were at the scene within five minutes, Faust reports.
