An out-of-town motorist was forced off the road and into a Eureka rental store last night, resulting in major damage to both store and vehicle.

The Eureka Police Department’s Brittany Powell told the Outpost this morning that the driver was heading southbound on Broadway when, according to both the driver and witnesses, a vehicle cut her off. The driver swerved, hit a telephone pole and eventually careened into the front of Don’s Rent All.

The driver initially reported that she was uninjured, but eventually accepted medical aid from firefighters on the scene. A passenger was unharmed. Police were unable to obtain a description of the vehicle that is believed to have cut her off.

The vehicle suffered major damage, and had to be towed away with a flatbed. Powell said that Eureka Police Department dispatchers spent some time attempting to locate a hotel room for the vehicle’s occupants — a difficult task, she said, as most local hotel rooms had already been rented up by out-of-town fire crews. However, the dispatchers eventually located a vacant room, and police officers transported driver and passenger to it.
