From the Eureka Police Department:
On 08/25/15 at about 5:35 p.m., the Eureka Police Department Communications Center received multiple reports of shots heard around the 1100 block of E Street. Officers checked the area but were unable to locate anything suspicious.
At about 6:45 p.m., more calls started to come in about shots heard in the same vicinity. Several residents in the area were contacted and were able to narrow the search to an apartment complex in the 300 block of Grant Street.
While officers were attempting contact at an apartment, the resident came home and said that her son, Damon Rogers, 20, of Eureka, was possibly home. Rogers eventually came to the door and was found to be on searchable felony probation for discharge of a firearm in a grossly reckless manner.
Rogers and an additional male on scene were detailed and the residence was searched per Roger’s probation and consent from Roger’s mother. Officers located several shotgun shells and a loaded pistol. A spent .40 caliber shell was located in the backyard.
Both Rogers and the other male denied shooting the gun. Besides shots heard, there were no witnesses to the suspected shooting of the gun. Rogers was transported to the Humboldt County Correctional Facility and booked for Felon in Possession of a Firearm, Felon in Possession of Ammunition, and Probation Violation.
