The Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office warns of a telephone scam!:
The Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office wants to warn the public about a recurring telephone scam involving suspects, who state they are a deputy sheriff employed with the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office. The scam involves a suspect calling the public on the telephone stating they are a Deputy or Supervisor with the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office.
The caller will state to the citizen he/she did not show up for jury duty or owes a fine associated with a traffic citation or some other type fine associated with the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office or the Humboldt County Courts. The caller will then ask the citizen for a credit card number to clear up their fines to avoid being arrested.
The Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office, Humboldt County Superior Courts or any other Law Enforcement Agency would never solicited or makes these types of phone calls, requesting money. If a citizen receives a telephone call involving this type of scam do not give your credit card number or send a check or cash in the mail.
The Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office is advising the public to immediately notify Law Enforcement if they receive this type of a telephone call.
