Brian Allen Kelly Smith passed away June 16th from a heart attack, he was 58 years old. He was born February 28, 1957 in Eureka and was a lifelong resident of Humboldt County.
A hard worker, Brian worked for LP as a journeyman millwright. He was an excellent welder and mechanic. He was very resourceful and repaired old machinery making it useful again. Brian had a passion for old cars, especially ‘57 Chevys, and Harley Davidsons. He loved fishing and just being on the water. He also had a green thumb and enjoyed growing his own food.
He was preceded in death by his parents Herbert and Marjorie Smith, brother Craig Smith, and nephew Donald Smith, all of Freshwater.
He is survived by his son Brandon Smith of Idaho, daughter Heather Smith and granddaughter Kailyn Bastedo of Sacramento, sister Gale Smith of Freshwater, Niece Angela Nelson and Great-nephew Orion Nelson of Eureka, Nephews Jensen Hippen of Freshwater, Will Hippen of Santa Cruz, Great nieces Janie Smith and Serrina Smith of Eureka, his dog Jackie who was his constant companion, girlfriend Sandra Holcomb and his cousin and good friend Todd Smith.
He also leaves behind many uncles and cousins in the Smith Families of Rohnerville, The Oliveira family, The Mark Windsor family, The Neilsen /Alto families, and the Freshwater families he grew up with; The Cookman Family, The Patton Family, The Hitchco Family, and The Sears Family.
A memorial potluck will be held in celebration of his life July 18th from 2-4pm at the Freshwater Grange.
