A  small whale, possibly a calf, was spotted breaching inside Humboldt Bay this afternoon.

According to a Madaket crew member, about 40 passengers were treated to multiple breaches while cruising the bay.

The whale was headed for the North end of the bay, when crew members used the boat to steer it back towards open ocean. The Madaket maintained a safe distance from the whale, and lost sight of it near Fairhaven.
