On the night of Sunday, July 19, an impaired motorcyclist suffered major injuries after being ejected from his motorcycle while failing to negotiate a curve in the roadway.
At approximately 11:30 p.m., 24 year old Nathan Nyberg of the Fortuna area was driving his 2003 Suzuki SV1000K3 motorcycle southbound on Loop Road, south of Strawberry Lane, at an unsafe speed for the roadway. As Nyberg approached a sharp left curve, he failed to negotiate the curve, causing the motorcycle to overturn. Nyberg was ejected from the motorcycle and the motorcycle collided into a fence.
Nyberg was transported by ground ambulance to Redwood Memorial Hospital in Fortuna with major injuries. Due to Nyberg’s sustained injuries, he was placed under arrest for misdemeanor DUI and released to the care of the hospital. On Monday morning, Nyberg was listed as in stable condition.
DUI is a factor in this collision. The California Highway Patrol Humboldt Area office is investigating this traffic collision.
