UPDATE, 5:25 p.m.: Eureka Police Department provide a press release update:
On 7/22/15 at about 12:55 p.m., the Eureka Police Department Communications Center received a report that a male subject was attacking a male with a broken bottle on the 1700 block of Everding Street. The caller reported the subject was extremely intoxicated and was threatening to kill the caller.
Upon arrival, officers found a male who was bleeding from a laceration and was dangerously intoxicated. The male was transported to the hospital by ambulance for evaluation. It was determined the two involved males were roommates.
Evidence and statements suggest that the injured male was the aggressor and the other male was acting in self-defense. The final determination of the incident is suspended until the injured party can be interviewed.

Detectives with the Eureka Police Department are currently investigating a bloody assault that took place just before 1 p.m. at a private home on the 1700 block of Everding Street.
A few minutes ago, EPD spokesperson Brittany Powell told the Outpost that detectives are still processing the scene, and that very little information about the attack is available. She did say that the person who notified police about the incident said that a broken bottle was used as a weapon in the assault.
Detective Ron Harpham told the Outpost’s Andrew Goff moments ago that the department is dealing with a “pretty messy crime scene” — blood, alcohol, broken bottles.
Neighbors reported that there had been a party-like atmosphere at the house for the last couple of days. This afternoon, they heard an argument escalated. Later, two people exited the house and caught a cab. Soon after, a man staggered out bleeding profusely from the head.
A reader who was at the scene sent in photos in which the victim had evidently lost a very great deal of blood, and had lacerations on his neck and face.
However, Harpham characterized the victim’s wounds as being “not that serious.” The victim was taken to the hospital, but according to Harpham was too intoxicated to give a statement.
Harpham also said that police know the identity of the other parties involved, and have made contact with one.
