Emergency personnel have responded to the stretch of Highway 101 just north of College of the Redwoods after a boy on a bicycle crashed while riding down the highway.

Chris Jelinek, battalion chief with Humboldt Bay Fire, told LoCO reporter John Ferrara that the victim sustained moderate injuries after the collision and was transported to St. Joseph’s Hospital. He had been riding with a group from New York. His family was transported to the hospital to be by his side via firetruck. 

The righthand, southbound lane of Highway 101 was temporarily blocked but is now open. Brief audio interview with Jelinek included below:
