A construction worker at the site of the new RMI sporting goods store on Broadway was run over by a steamroller a few minutes ago.
Captain Chis Kemp of Humboldt Bay Fire, who responded to the scene along with City Ambulance, said the victim — a male in his forties — was “alert, oriented and seemed fine” when firefighters arrived just after 11:15 a.m. Nevertheless, he was transported to the hospital.
Kemp told the Outpost’s Ryan Burns that witnesses reported that the steamroller — pictured below — rolled over the man’s chest, legs and pelvic areas.”
“That’s why we get paid good,” said a fellow construction worker who did not wish to be named.
