A 37-year-old Weitchpec man is still at large after a domestic dispute with his partner involving a rifle on Saturday around 10 p.m.

According to Lt. Wayne Hanson of the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office, William Moon struck the 40-year-old victim in the back of the neck with a rifle stock before he aimed the barrel towards her and threatened to shoot.

According to the victim — who was uncooperative with authorities — Moon ran off after the attack and three or four gunshots were fired in an unknown direction.

Hoopa Valley Tribal Police and a Willow Creek Forest Service officer responded to the call at New Village Road on the Yurok reservation, but were unable to locate the suspect.

The sheriff’s office has put out a warrant for Moon’s arrest for two felony charges: assault with a deadly weapon and domestic violence.
