Sure, a good share of the most exciting police activity that occurs on any given day in Eureka ends up LoCO, but what did the officers have for lunch?
That question is just one of many answered in a special series of #insideEPD tweets sent out today by Brittany Powell, Eureka Police Department public information officer extraordinaire. Powell has been riding shotgun all day in an EPD patrol car providing stream of consciousness updates ranging from the slightly confrontational to the interestingly mundane — to answer the query posed above, they had Hole in the Wall sammies.

7:03 a.m.: Tweet Along has started. All shifts start with an informative briefing.
7:44 a.m.: PIO Brittany Powell and Officer Southwell patrolling beat 2 today. We’re talking to people walking around the mall.
8:03 a.m.: Male calling 911 to get his belongings from a mini storage. He was an hour early for his appt. issued resolved for now.
8:24 a.m.: Citizen hailed officer about suspicious male looking at craftsman tools in bushes. Tools taken for safekeeping.
8:44 a.m.: RP = reporting party. RP reporting they were poisoned last night by a friend. Police and ambulance responding to investigate.
8:53 a.m.: 3 firemen, 2 police, 2 EMT’s later and he’s in the ambulance. Drank bleach. He’s expected to survive.
9:03 a.m.: Just dispersed a male off the Motel 6 property for loitering and taking coffee from the lobby. Now patrolling Broadway.
9:12 a.m.: Met Adan on the Hikashari Trail. He had a bubble making skateboard.
9:52 a.m.: On our way back to Motel 6 for the same male from earlier. He’s confronting employees and stating he owns the motel.
10:20 a.m.: He was sent on his way to take care of business at the courthouse.
10:23 a.m.: Taking code 7 (lunch). Stopped at Hole in the Wall for a bite to eat. We’ll be back at it in no time.
10:48 a.m.: 3B61 is clear code 7 and back on the streets of Eureka.
11:07 a.m.: We are back at a motel 6 for the report of a male seen on surveillance breaking into a room to sleep.
11:51 a.m.: Responding to the report of two subjects laying on the corner with their hands over their face, possibly under the influence.
11:57 a.m.: Handled by another officer
Noon: Gave warning to a man pushing a shopping cart- advised him to return it to the store. Now on to a report of a man down.
12:10 p.m.: Man down was just reading in the grass enjoying the day.
12:19 p.m.: Doing a walk through of the Bayshore Mall.
12:49 p.m.: The mall was busy during lunch break. Talked to some friendly store employees
12:54 p.m.: Just secured a shopping cart to a pole with a bike lock to be picked up by store owner. Shopping cart czar to the rescue!
1:18 p.m.: Officer Southwell getting all the facts from the RP over Bluetooth on the way to a shoplifter call at the mall.
1:43 p.m.: Just assisted fire and ambulance with an erratic patient having a medical emergency.
1:58 p.m.: Anyone know what alley we’re watching for traffic violations in?
2:09 p.m.: We haven’t seen any violations. Good job Eureka drivers!
2:33 p.m.: We spoke too soon. Just wrote a cell phone ticket.
2:40 p.m.: Found on male on searchable probation. Needles were disposed of in sharps container. Baggies were empty. Sent on way
2:46 p.m.: Male on foot just fled from us near the 3500 block of Prospect. We aren’t following.
2:48 p.m.: En route to back vehicle pursuit near G and 15th. Avoid the area.
3:06 p.m.: Vehicle stopped near H and 15th. 2 fled on foot. 1 occupant detained and perimeter set for second occupant.
3:12 p.m.: Search for the second occupant was discontinued.
3:24 p.m.: Remember the guy who drank bleach earlier? He’s ok. We just removed him from a business on west Harris.
4:05 p.m.: Last hour! Where do you want us to patrol? Anywhere west of A street and south of 14th is on the table.
4:16 p.m.: Contacted a mom with 3 warrants taking her son for a walk. Advised her to take care of her warrants asap. #discretion
4:58 p.m.: C watch is in, A watch is off duty. Thanks for tweeting along with us today.
