Last Wednesday morning, 39-year-old mother Csilla Adam was shot on the front porch of her Fortuna home while her two-year-old daughter sat buckled into a car seat in the driveway mere feet away. According to Fortuna Police, the shooter and father of the child, 47-year-old Russell Kellim, had been engaged in a custody-related argument with Adam before shooting her four times.

After shooting the mother of his child, Kellim fatally shot himself in the head.

Less than a week later, a candlelight vigil for Adam and other victims of domestic violence will be held Tuesday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. in front of the Humboldt County Courthouse.

“We want to send light, healing energy, love and prayers to the woman and her family,” said Mary Balletta, Executive Director of Women’s Crisis Shelter in Southern Humboldt (WISH) in an email to the Outpost.

Fortuna Police Chief Bill Dobberstein told the Times-Standard today that Adam is in “stable condition” down at the UC Davis Medical Center where she’ll remain while more medical issues are attended to. Two of the four bullets that entered her body last Wednesday are still in her back and are expected to stay there.
