A Humboldt Transit Authority bus struck a pedestrian at the corner of Fifth and O streets in Eureka just before 11:30 a.m. today.
According to Eureka Police officer Abraham Jansen, who spoke with the Outpost’s Andrew Goff at the scene, witnesses reported that a white male in his 40s “stumbled” into the path of the bus just as it was pulling out from a bus stop. The witnesses believed that the victim exhibited signs of intoxication, Jansen said, though that has yet to be confirmed.
When officers arrived, they discovered the man lying in the roadway in front of the bus with severe lacerations to his left lower leg. He was conscious, but in a state of shock. He was treated by paramedics at the scene, then transported by ambulance to St. Joseph Hospital.
