From the Hoopa Valley Tribal Police Department:
On 03/05/2015 at about 0015 hrs, the Hoopa Tribal Police Department received a call of shots fired near Big Hill Road and Highway 96. The reporting party stated he heard two (2) gun shots and a subject asking for help.
At about 0030 officers from the Hoopa Tribal Police Department arrived in the area to attempt to locate the possible victim. After checking the area for several minutes, the officers located a 39-year-old male victim lying in the doorway to his residence with a gunshot wound to the lower abdomen. Hoopa Ambulance responded to the scene to render assistance to the victim.
During the initial interview with the victim he stated he was sleeping inside his residence and heard a vehicle pull into his yard. He then heard subject(s) on the porch. He went outside and contacted the suspect(s), who were surprised. The suspect(s) shot the victim with a firearm in the lower abdomen. The victim fell on to the porch unable to walk. The suspects left in a loud truck in an unknown direction. The victim was unable to call for help due to his injuries.
The victim was flown to a Redding hospital to receive treatment for his injuries. As of the afternoon of 03/05/2015, the victim is still admitted to the hospital and is listed in critical condition.
As of the date and time of the press release, the suspect(s) in this case are still outstanding.
The Hoopa Tribal police would like to thank the anonymous reporting party. Without their help the HTPD may not have been able to locate the victim to render the assistance needed.
