Humboldt bay fire was dispatched to a Ford Expedition on fire in the Mr. Fish Seafood parking lot near the intersection of Broadway and Henderson Streets in Eureka around 12:30 p.m.

Batallion Chief Chris Jelinek told the Outpost that a family was driving through Eureka when the driver of the vehicle noticed the engine was on fire and pulled off the road.

“The father had previously done some work on the vehicle, which he believes was the reason it caught fire,” Jelinked said.

The family escaped the SUV unharmed. Firefighters extinguished the flames within minutes arrival and most of the fire was contained to the SUV’s engine compartment.
