A local man wanted for sexual assault charges was taken into custody by the Eureka Police Department this morning after a brief foot chase.
Police had been looking for the man — Markis Shirley — in connection with an early morning rape that took place last week in a downtown Eureka motel.
Shirley was taken into custody after he was spotted by a patrolling officer near 20-30 Park. EPD spokesperson Brittany Powell said this morning that Shirley fled from officers and was eventually taken into custody on the 2500 block of California.
