Matthew Plato was driving his 2012 Volkswagen Routan on westbound SR-299 at the US-101 overcrossing. The Volkswagen and the Buick came to rest blocking the eastbound and westbound lanes of SR-299 at the overcrossing of US-101. SR-299 traffic was diverted onto US-101 until the lanes were cleared at approximately 1300 hours The right front passenger of the Volkswagen and the driver of the Buick were transported by Arcata Ambulance to Mad River Hospital.
Emergency personnel from the California Highway Patrol, Arcata Fire District, and Arcata Ambulance responded to the scene.
